Shut Up, They Explained
Poor, poor President Obama. It’s tough to be the king.
Dude wins the election because he is clearly smarter, cooler and more
compassionate than any other person in America. He is the opposite of
the clueless, uncaring George W. Bush, and that means everyone
recognizes he is the man with the plan.
So
what happens when he ascends to the throne of greatness? Here he is –
empowered by acclimation of the American people to remake the nation in
his image. And yet when he tries to give us the gift we begged of him,
people start yelping.
Peasants.
Oh, the president tries to spell out guidelines for our behavior,
explaining, “I don’t want the folks who created the mess doing a lot of
talking.”
And yet these ungrateful folks just keep yapping.
Democratic members of Congress, finally in control of both the
legislative and executive branches and chomping at the bit to put the
entire private sector under federal control, try their best to explain
the rules of engagement at town-hall meetings (“shut up”), and yet the
dregs keep showing up and asking uncomfortable questions about abstract
details like, oh, say, the proposed federal takeover of health care.
Congressman David Scott (D-Georgia) was so confused by the whole
situation, he ended up screaming at a critical questioner for not being
one of his constituents, which is too bad, because the man not only
was a constituent, but a doctor to boot.
Oops!
But that’s what happens when you’re under relentless criticism for
trying to give the masses what’s good for them.
Democrats try to explain how unreasonable it is to put up with this,
especially since these people are surely being organized by the
insurance industry and right-wing talk radio, which makes them unworthy
of being heard. It’s a good thing many of these town-hall meetings are
attended by large groups of large people, organized by the Service
Employees International Union, who help to keep the peace. They’re good
at that.
But people are so ungrateful, it’s hard to get them to shut up. And who
could have envisioned this after a crushing 53 percent majority voted to
usher in the era of hope and change? Who would have thought anyone would
utter a peep in opposition to the complete federalization of health
care, draconian controls on industry, the nationalization of the auto
industry or the biggest explosion in federal spending in the nation’s
history?
You people wanted change! Now shut up and let us give it to you!
It’s not easy to be a Democrat, especially when you actually win and you
have to govern. The people of this country don’t know what’s good for
them, and Democrats so rarely accumulate enough political power to
actually force the public into making the choices Democrats want them to
make (by banning or taxing to the moon every other conceivable choice).
You know, when you think about it, all this yelping just proves why
Democrats need to be in charge. You know who these people are? These
people who disrupt town-hall meetings by asking questions that don’t
bring us together? This is the private sector. This is the unfettered
free market. These are the profit-mongers, the speculators, the hockey
moms, the secret racists. And don’t think for a minute that this is some
sort of grassroots movement. Oh no. Someone organized all this.
And if President Obama is going to change America, that’s the last thing
you need in a community. Organizers.
Sigh. It’s tough being smarter than everyone else, when you’re just
trying to give the simpletons what they’re too unsophisticated to know
they need.
