From Clinton to Obama to Kwame Kilpatrick, Democrats Can’t Help But Lie

What is it about Democratic politicians and their irresistible urge to lie? Even in the post-President Clinton era, lies continue to flow from the lips of prominent Democrats with regularity only matched by lots of fiber.

Within the past two weeks alone, we’ve seen Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff, Christine Beatty, surrender to authorities after being indicted for conspiracy, perjury and obstruction of justice. Hillary Clinton said she was “sleep-deprived, and I misspoke” when she highly exaggerated about her trip to Bosnia as First Lady 12 years ago, and claimed she was under hostile sniper fire when she landed for an official visit. Barack Obama said he was never present during any sermons when his pastor-of-choice, Jeremiah Wright, went off in a lunatic tirade bashing America and attacking whites. Later in his speech on race, which was heralded by liberals, he acknowledged that he was in fact present for at least one of the fiery hate speeches.

And I’m not going to get into all the sordid details about the dishonesty exhibited by former New York Governor/Philanderer Eliot Spitzer, who was recently replaced with David Paterson, the documented Democratic lieutenant governor/philander. Paterson, in addition to admitting to past illegal drug use, said he used campaign contributions to rent motel rooms to be with his paramour. How would you like your hard-earned campaign contribution going to that?

Mayor Kilpatrick’s supporters say that his troubles stem from an extramarital affair with Mrs. Beatty. Because most of the now-public 14,000 text messages between them concerned past and future trysts, they dusted off the Bill Clinton defense. They claim it’s a private sexual matter between two consenting adults, so lying about it to a grand jury is essentially no big deal.

I’ll tell you what a big deal is, Mr. Mayor. You can say anything you want to your constituents all the way to the door of the grand jury room. But once you’re inside and swear to tell the truth, and don’t, you’ve committed perjury and obstructed justice – both felonies. Before answering questions in front of the grand jury about his affair, Kilpatrick must have asked himself: “Hmm, should I tell the truth and risk castration by Mrs. Kilpatrick, or should I lie and risk just going to jail for 15 years?” It appears he chose the latter.

And if lying to a grand jury isn’t bad enough, the very reason he was “testilying” was part of a civil proceeding in which two of his police officer body guards were wrongfully fired in retaliation for documenting his sexual affair with Mrs. Beatty. The officers sued, and the city later settled, costing it close to nine million scarce Detroit taxpayer dollars, without the City Council knowing that an affair on the mayor’s part had led to the firings in the first place.

Mrs. Clinton has been under the political tutelage of her husband for many years, and knows how to look like Mother Teresa when she’s lying. “I remember landing under sniper fire,” she recalled. "There was supposed to be some kind of greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base." Was that the same trip other members of her official party attended? Because none of them have the same recollections. Trust me on this one, the pilot would never land if that were the case. Her claim that when an official trip is too dangerous for the president, the First Lady is sent instead, is another example of her contempt for the American voter, and how stupid she thinks we are.

That whopper cost her four percentage points in a recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. This is just her latest embellishment of facts to pad her resume in foreign affairs. She forgets that during her husband’s administration she wasn’t Secretary of State, she was First Lady.

But, come to think of it, unlike John McCain, all these Democrats are lawyers. That explains everything! Now I understand their motivation for lying – they can’t help themselves.
